Fieldays, in Hamilton, is the largest agribusiness expo in the Southern Hemisphere – a huge, four day agricultural show jam-packed with activities, seminars, competitions and displays, for professional farmers and families alike.
Families will love visiting the Heritage Village. Take a wander through New Zealand’s agricultural history preserved beautifully in the schoolhouse, church, hospital and jail. Enjoy activities, puzzles and challenges and be sure to catch the vintage tractor parade.
Also check out the Innovations Centre, hosting up to 60 innovators demonstrating their brilliant inventions and competing to take out an Innovator’s Award.
The Ag Art Wear competition has designers using materials sourced from the farm, rural industries or the natural environment to create wearable artworks. These stunning, experimental and thought-provoking pieces are on display at the daily runway shows.
For something a bit noisier, head to the Tractor Pull area beside the Waikato River, where farmers battle it out to see whose tractor has the most grunt. Cheer on your favourite from the stadium seating.
Learn everything you need to know about fencing at the Fencing Demonstrations. Professional fencers will be on hand to answer all your questions and show you how to fix your fencing problem, whatever it may be.
When you start feeling peckish, head over to the Kiwi’s Best Kitchen marquee. Focusing on New Zealand produce, exhibitors will be displaying delicious cheeses, meats and fresh produce, as well as snacks, treats and a selection of fine wines, sprits and liquors. Don’t miss the celebrity chefs (including past MasterChef winners) presenting masterclasses in the Kitchen Theatre.
Admire the skills of the Rural Bachelors, challenging one another in log-splitting, speed fencing and even blind dating to see which fine, hard-working single man will go home with the Golden Gumboot.
