Each year Humpback and Southern Right whales make the long journey from Antarctica to the Margaret River region. Whale watching in the Margaret River is a very unique experience. The Margaret River region has some of the most stunning caves in Australia. There are more than 150 caves along the Leeuwin Naturaliste Ridge. These caves belong to a series of complex karst systems which are landscapes formed by the rapid drainage of water underground. There are three magnificent caves to explore- Lake, Mammoth and Jewel! Also check out the Historic Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse in all its splendour, situated at the most south-westerly tip of Australia.
Christmas is a time to be merry and Margaret River is one of the World’s finest wine regions! The region is highly regarded for its Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet blends. Enjoy a tasting at Cape Mentelle, established in 1970 as one of the founding wineries of Margaret River. Or head to Juniper Estate, a producer of premium wines in Willyabrup, in the heart of the Margaret River winegrowing area. It is one of the oldest vineyards in the area.
If you like to sing, make your merrily way to Christmas Carols in the Park on 12 December at Reuther Park. Here you’ll see the Margaret River Concert Band, Combined Churches Band and school choirs. There’ll be live animals and a visit from Santa as well. There’s also Carols by the Jetty on 13 December in Busselton. Bring a rug and some nibbles and enjoy the buzzing Busselton Jetty ambience.
The following day, check out the Spirit of Christmas Fair at Reuther Park,which is sure to be a fun-filled day with arts and crafts, jewellery, clothing and gourmet delights. There’s also a Yahava coffee van, ice cream van and face painting for the kids. The fair runs from 9am-1pm and is free of charge.
